The creation of images by which tooth mineralization can be used to assess tooth maturity depends on the use of suitable radiographic techniques.

The images from  which tooth development can be assessed are:

1. The Long cone Peri – Apical View

2. The Upper Standard Occlusal View

3. The Dental Panoramic Tomograph (DPT).  This is by far the most commonly used.

Other imaging procedures such as Computed Cone Beam Tomography  are increasingly being used but there are no satisfactory Reference Data Sets at present (2014).
